Nepal’s women’s cricket team has been eliminated from the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier at the group stage.
Nepal’s hopes of reaching the Super Six ended after a heavy 72-run defeat to Scotland in their final group match on Monday.
Chasing a challenging target of 141 runs, Nepal were bowled out for 68 runs in 13.5 overs, losing nine wickets. Captain Indu Barma was forced to leave the field midway through the innings due to injury.
Indu was injured on the fourth ball of the seventh over and did not return to the field.
For Nepal, Bindu Rawal and Roma Thapa scored 14 runs each, while Rubina Chhetri added 10 runs.
For Scotland, Abtaha Maqsood took three wickets. Captain Kathryn Bryce and Katherine Fraser claimed two wickets each, while Olivia Bell and Rachel Slater took one wicket apiece.
Strong start with the ball, weak finish
Earlier, Scotland, invited to bat first after Nepal lost the toss, were all out for 140 runs in 20 overs, setting Nepal a target of 141.
Nepal made an impressive start with the ball, taking three wickets inside the powerplay and reducing Scotland to 79 for six. However, Scotland recovered late in the innings to post a competitive total.
For Scotland, Priyanaz Chatterjee top-scored with an unbeaten 45 runs. Alisa Lister scored 22, Sarah Bryce made 18, and Megan McColl added 17.
For Nepal, Manisha Upadhyay was the standout bowler, taking four wickets for 15 runs in four overs. Rubina Chhetri picked up three wickets for 23 runs. Sita Rana Magar, Riya Sharma, and Kabita Joshi took one wicket each.
Earlier in the tournament, Nepal lost to Thailand and the Netherlands but secured a win against Zimbabwe. With just one victory, Nepal finished with two points.
Six teams confirmed for Super Six
All six teams qualifying for the Super Six stage of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier have been confirmed.
From Group B, Scotland, the Netherlands, and Thailand advanced to the Super Six.
From Group A, the United States secured a Super Six spot after defeating Papua New Guinea by five wickets. Bangladesh, Ireland, and the United States progressed from Group A.
The top four teams from the Super Six will qualify for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, to be held in England in June.
