Flood risks in Kathmandu, KMC launches helpline service

Kathmandu, October 4

Following continuous rainfall since last night, officials of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City have been mobilised to inspect areas considered at high risk.

At around 9 am Saturday, a landslide occurred near Kar Khusi Khola by Kohinoor Housing in Kathmandu Metropolitan City–14, causing part of the road to collapse. Houses near the road are now at risk.

To prevent further damage, the Metropolitan Police Force and the Disaster Management Department are working together to control riverbank erosion by using sacks and gravel, the city office said.

According to the Metropolitan City, if flooding causes problems in any settlement, residents will be relocated to the nearest safe school. Vulnerable communities have been urged to remain alert.

The city office has also launched a helpline service for residents to report disaster-related problems immediately. Citizens can contact 16600105511, 015901764, or 015901763 to inform authorities of any issues.

Authorities confirmed that these helplines are open for anyone facing emergency problems.
