Nepal is likely to experience an early onset of the monsoon this year, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecast Division.
Meteorologist David Dhakal said the monsoon usually enters Nepal via the eastern region around mid-June (Jestha 30), but this year it could arrive by Jestha 17 (May 31). Monsoon has already reached parts of Assam (India), Bhutan, and eastern Bangladesh.
Based on satellite imagery, atmospheric analysis, and weather patterns, the division forecasts that the monsoon will enter Nepal earlier than usual. Additionally, above-average rainfall is expected this monsoon season.
