The upper portion of the module has a circular black ring with the main camera and the ultra-wide camera. In contrast, the lower portion has a ring-shaped flash called the Aura light—the glass back slightly curves into the plastic frame with a shiny metal finish.

The display of the Vivo V40 5G is curved with minimum bezels on the top and bottom. The centre of the display includes a hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera. It has a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2800 × 1260 delivering a pixel density of 452 ppi. It supports refresh rates of 60 Hz and 120 Hz for smoother display motion. It has a local peak brightness of up to 4500 nits for visibility even under bright sunlight.

The screen also provides accurate and vibrant colours, covering 100% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut and 105% of the NTSC colour range. It uses a Q9 light-emitting material enhancing the overall brightness and colour reproduction along with features such as capacitive multi-touch technology. The smartphone has IP68 and IP69 water and dust resistance for further protection.
