Kathmandu, August 4
One hundred and three pregnant and postpartum women benefited from medevac services in the last fiscal year under the President’s Women Upliftment Programme. The Ministry of Women, Children, Gender, Sexual Minorities and Social Security airlifted pregnant and postpartum women at risk in remote areas through the Nepali Army. The ministry has also issued the Air Rescue Procedure 2077 for this.
According to the procedures, pregnant or delivering women at risk includes women who have continuous long labor pain (more than 18 hours) making it difficult for the newborn to be delivered, the women when the baby’s hands, feet, or body come out first making delivery difficult, the umbilical cord does not come out within 30 minutes after birth, when the baby dies in the womb, or when the pregnant woman’s limbs and body appear swollen during pregnancy. Similarly, at-risk women includes APH during pregnancy and PPS after childbirth, including heavy bleeding, uterine rupture, and suspicion that the baby is outside the uterus.
