2 Nepalis killed in a car accident in Virginia, USA

Kathmandu, January 10

Two Nepalis died in a car accident in Chantilly, Virginia, USA, on Thursday morning around 7 am local time.

According to NBC Washington, the incident occurred when the car they were in skidded off a parking area and plunged into a pond at the Wyndham Hotel premises.

The victims were identified as 55-year-old driver Karna Khadka and his 20-year-old relative Nishchal Bhatta. Khadka worked as a housekeeper at the same hotel and had recently brought Bhatta to help him secure a job there.

The car reportedly slipped on icy ground, falling approximately 10 feet into the pond. Video footage from the accident site shows the car’s front submerged in water.

Local Nepalis said the victims succumbed due to extreme cold and delays in the rescue operation.

Karna Khadka was residing in the US with his wife, daughter, and son-in-law, while Nishchal Bhatta’s family remains in Nepal.
