These are highlights of govt’s achievements related to foreign affairs in the past year

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made public a report highlighting its achievements of the past year, on Sunday.

Foreign Affairs Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali made the report public amid a press meet in Kathmandu this afternoon.

In the report, the government has claimed it improved ties with both neighbours, India and China.

Point-wise, these are highlights of the achievements claimed by the ministry:

  1. The new political map
  2. An integrated document on the country’s foreign policy
  3. Works related to Nepal-India border demarcation advanced
  4. A cross-border petroleum pipeline and integrated customs check-posts
  5. Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Nepal visit and significant achievements with China
  6. More intense engagements with development partners and other organisations
  7. Bilateral consulting mechanisms formed with France, Norway, and the Philippines; meetings of such mechanisms with eight other countries
  8. Diplomatic ties established with Saint Lucia and Ghana, making the number of countries with which Nepal has the ties 168
  9. Various programmes organised in Australia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Siberia on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties
  10. Active participation in the United Nations, the Non-aligned Movement, G77, and the World Trade Organisation
  11. Active participation in the SAARC, BIMSTEC, SCAO, and ACD
  12. Participation in UN peacekeeping missions continued
  13. Active role in global human rights promotion as a member of the UN Human Rights Council
  14. Effective consular services to migrant workers in various countries in the wake of the Covid-19 crisis
  15. Facilitation of migrant workers’ return
  16. Leadership and active engagement in the Colombo Process for the protection of concerns of Asian countries are sources to migrant workers
  17. A significant role in the protection of migrant workers as a deputy member of the ILO
  18. Appointment as a border member of WTO’s Enhanced Integrated Framework
  19. Appointment as the Second Committee chair of the UNGA
  20. Appointment as a member of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs
  21. Preparation of the groundwork to host Sagarmatha Sambaad
  22. Empowerment of Brain Grain Centre
