Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal Chairperson Upendra Yadav says the federal government is putting the newly introduced system of federalism in jeopardy as it did not give sufficient rights to provincial and local governments.

He says the government is imposing the centre’s rule on provincial and local governments instead of delegating constitutional rights.

“Federalism has to take rights of Singhadarbar [the central government] to each and every village,” Yadav said at a press conference in Biratnagar of Morang today, “It does not mean transporting Singhadarbar’s rights to Baluwatar [PM’s residence].”

Yadav was of the view that rights given to the provincial governments currently were as few as those give to the District Panchayat during the partyless Panchayat system before 1990.
