The main opposition CPN-UML is drafting a new strategy for local level elections in Province 2 scheduled for September 18.

A Standing Committee meeting has been called for Sunday afternoon to finalise the strategy. The party has called leaders deployed to eight districts of the Province to the capital for the meeting.

The strategy will be developed on the basis of their field reports, according to the party source.

The party, which emerged as the biggest political force in the country from recent first and second phases of local level elections in six other provinces, has hoped to win top positions in around 45 per cent of total 127 local units in Province 2, says the UML Province 2 Deputy Coordinator Nagendra Chaudhary.

The party is also planning to make some influential leaders of other parties defect into UML before the polls, it has been learned.
