UML students file human rights violation complaint against Nepal Police

CPN-UML’s student leaders hold a meeting with National Human Rights Commission officials, in Kathmandu, on Tuesday, January 9, 2018.

Kathmandu, January 9

The CPN-UML’s student wing, All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), on Tuesday filed a complaint of human rights violation against Nepal Police at the National Human Rights Commission, accusing police personnel of using force to suppress its peaceful demonstration last week.

The organisation’s Secretary RC Lamichhane says they have demanded action against police personnel involved in the suppression.

Earlier on January 2, police had lobbed tear gas shells and baton-charged protesters to disperse the mob protesting the government decision to hike the price of petroleum products. Few students were injured in the incident.

Meanwhile, Lamichhane says they will file a case at court demanding action against involved police personnel.
