UML Standing Committee meeting to discuss Maoist Centre’s 50-50 demand

Kathmandu, April 3

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s CPN-UML has called a meeting of the party’s powerful Standing Committee to discuss the demand of CPN-Maoist Centre that all positions of the unified party that they plan to merge into be shared equally.

Oli has called the meeting for 2 pm at his residence in Baluwatar. The meeting will try to frame a collective opinion about the demand and other contentious issues as top leaders of the two parties are holding a meeting this evening.

The unification between two parties has been stuck halfway as they could not forge agreement on the proportion of positions, the party’s election symbol and whether to include ‘people’s war’ in the party statute.

Leaders of both parties, however, are hopeful that the issues can be settled soon and the unification will be announced.
