UML-Maoist meeting: No discussion on contentious issues

Kathmandu, April 5

Top leaders of the CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist Centre failed to find agreements on some crucial issues for their party unification.

The two parties are planning to merge the parties, but they have not agreed on whether to include the Maoists’ ‘people’s war’ in the party statute and how much shares the two parties will have in the unified one.

Likewise, the parties also have differences over what the party’s election symbol will be.

However, leaders clearly expressed their opinions about the organisational setup and interim statute proposed by two task forces, according to a leader who attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, the meeting also directed leaders of both the parties to begin preparations for the announcement of unification, which is likely to be held on April 22.

“Now, the next meeting will be held on Tuesday next week after the Prime Minister will return from India,” the leader said.

Prime Minister and UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli is leaving for New Delhi tomorrow on a three-day state visit.
