UML, Maoist Centre to divide key positions on four bases

Kathmandu, January 12

The joint task force of CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre on Friday finalised four bases to share key state positions at the federal and the provincial levels as they are preparing to lead the central as well as six of seven provincial governments.

A meeting of three leaders from each party held at the UML Parliamentary Party Office in Singhadarbar decided to take the parties’ strength at the provincial level, spirits of party unification, personal qualifications of candidates and aspirants, and balance between the two parties are major bases for sharing, informs UML leader Subas Chandra Nembang, who has been leading the task force.

“We shall consider results of local and provincial elections while finalising our candidates. On the other hand, the distribution model should not be against sentiments of unification,” Nembang says, “We will divide positions with a feeling that we are becoming a single party very soon.”

Nembang says the task force is also discussing candidate selection for National Assembly elections and everything will be finalised before the date set for upper House nominations, January 24.

It has been learned that the parties will divide 56 positions of the National Assembly on 60:40 ratio.
