UML candidates win deputy speakers in provinces 4, 5

Defeating Nepali Congress candidates, lawmakers of CPN-UML have been elected deputy speakers of provincial assemblies in provinces 4 and 5 on Sunday.

During the voting held at the Provincial Assembly hall in Pokhara today, Sirjana Sharma received 38 votes to become elected the deputy speaker of 60-member Province 4 Assembly. She defeated Man Kumari Gurung of Nepali Congress, who was restricted to 18 votes.

Province 5 Deputy Speaker Krishni Tharu

Meanwhile, UML’s Krishni Tharu has been elected the deputy speaker in Province 5 Assembly. Tharu with 66 votes defeated Rina Nepal BK of Nepali Congress. There are total 85 members in the Assembly.

As per an agreement made at the central level, the CPN-Maoist Centre supported the victorious candidates in both the places. Both the provinces have Maoist Centre leaders as speakers. In Province 5, Federal Socialist Forum and Rastriya Janamorcha supported Tharu during the poll.
