Kathmandu, May 20

Nepal’s main opposition CPN UML has accused the ruling alliance of using state power to influence results in the first round of local elections held last week.

The party has also demanded that a parliamentary committee be formed to investigate accusations related to fraud and foul play.

The party’s standing committee said that members of the ruling coalition took to undemocratic practices and were involved in foul play during the first round of elections. The party has demanded immediate action against those found involved in electoral fraud.

Meanwhile, the party has directed its committees to nominate candidates for the next round of elections, at the earliest.
