Kathmandu, July 27

A government project funded by the Asian Development Bank has proposed constructing a two-lane road from Muglin to Ramnagar of Chitwan as an alternative to the existing Narayangadh-Muglin road.

If the plan is implemented, the 25-kilometre alternative road will be constructed across the Trishuli River and it will have the width equal to the existing road.

Director at the Roads Project Directorate under the Department of Roads, Keshav Kumar Sharma, says his office has called for tenders to carry out a feasibility study for the project.

He says the government plans to complete the feasibility study in next one year and prepare a detail project report after that before actually begin the construction.

“The Muglin-Narayangadh road will have a width of nine metres after the ongoing expansion. We cannot expand it further and any attempt of expansion might cause a serious disaster,” he says, “But we can neither leave such a vital road connecting Kathmandu in such a narrow condition. Therefore, we have brought a concept to construct the alternative road.”
