Twitterati react to impeachment motion against CJ Karki

Kathmandu, April 30

The impeachment motion filed by lawmakers of ruling Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist Centre against Chief Justice Sushila Karki became a shocker for social media users on Sunday afternoon.

Many of Nepali Twitter users have criticised the move claiming Karki was a brave judge whereas some have expressed curiosities about on what will happen next when Parliament is sharply divided over the constitution amendment bill.

Deputy Prime Minister and Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chair Kamal Thapa has said the ruling alliance lawmakers’ move was “objectionable and unfortunate.”

Former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai said the ruling parties’ decision of an abuse of rights of the lawmakers to file the impeachment motion and feared such an abuse might put democracy at stake.

Likewise, CPN-UML lawmaker Rabindra Adhikari said the move has pushed the next course of Nepali politics into uncertainty.

Writer Khagendra Sangraula expressed his curiosity over whom the move would defame: the government or Karki.

Journalist Basanta Basnet said it was politicisation of judiciary.

Likewise, another journalist Rudra Pangeni said it was evidence of degradation of Nepali Congress party.

Kiran Bhandari suspected that it was a ploy to delay local level elections.

For Binod Dhakal, the move has put the sanctity of judiciary at stake.

Advocate Babu Ram Aryal, however, seemed supportive of the move and said it was the result of arrogance of judiciary.
