Kathmandu, June 18
The tenure of all 59 National Assembly members has been decided through the drawing of lots on Monday.
The term of National Assembly President Ganesh Prasad Timilsina has been allocated for six years whereas NA Vice-President Sashikala Dahal has been allocated for four years.
Similarly, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa will remain lawmaker for six years, while Finance Minister Yubaraj Khatiwada will continue his lawmaker position for two years.
Likewise, lawmaker Dinanath Sharma will continue his tenure for four years. Nepali Congress leader Surendra Raj Pandey and Chief Whip Sarita Prasai will be the lawmaker for two years only.

Tenure of 59 National Assembly members to be decided today
The tenure of 59 National Assembly members including the Upper House Chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timilsina will be decided through the drawing of lots on Monday.
Of the three members elected via open competition in Province 4 – Timilsina, Dinanath Sharma, and main-opposition party leader in the Assembly Surendra Pandey,one will work for two years, the second for four years and remaining one for six years.
Similarly, the fate of Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa and Finance Minister Yubaraj Khatiwada will also be decided through a drawing of lots today itself.
Of the 59 lawmakers, 19 members will work for two years, 20 for four years, and remaining 20 for six years.
Article 86.3 of the constitution mentions, “The term of office of the members of the National Assembly shall be six years. The term of office of one third of the members of the National Assembly shall expire in every two years.”
“Provided that, for the first time, after the commencement of this Constitution, arrangements shall be made by drawing lots to retire one-third of the members on the expiry of two years, another one-third on the expiry of four years, and the final one-third on the expiry of six years.”
Before drawing the lots, the boxes will be made empty. Chits with respective numbers will be folded and kept inside the box then.
