The Supreme Court on Thursday has ordered the government not to implement its earlier decision to transfer the district headquarters of Rukum East from Rukumkot to Uttarputha.

A single bench of Justice Deepak Karki ordered the government to stay the decision. Earlier, advocate Ganesh Hamal among three had filed a writ petition demanding cancellation of the decision.

Advocates Surya Dhungel, Upendra Keshari Pokharel, Raman Kumar Shrestha and Tika Ram Bhattarai had advocated against the government decision during the hearing today.

Locals of Rukumkot have been staging a protest against the decision for last eight days. They have imposed a general strike since the decision was made last week.
