Student unions renew strike warning against fee hike at private schools

Leaders and cadres of student unions stage a protest in front of the Department of Education, in Bhaktapur, on Wednesday, April 25, 2018.

Kathmandu, April 25

Student unions affiliated with various political parties on Wednesday have issued a warning of resorting to a nationwide education strike if the government fails to force private schools withdraw the fee hike decision.

The union leaders and cadres picketed the Department of Education office in Sanothimi of Bhaktapur today and issued the warning.

They demanded that the Department be able to ensure that all private schools comply with the fee standards set by the government two years ago.

The protesters had reached the entrance of Department before the office hour began at 10:00 am and blocked its staff from entering. Subsequently, a minor clash ensued between them.

Meanwhile, the unions say they will picket offices of local governments (municipalities and rural municipalities) across the country on Friday if their demand was not met by then.
