Kathmandu, June 2

Speaker Onsari Gharti has decided to consult top leaders of major parties before publishing the schedule of Prime Minister’s election.

The Speaker made the decision after ruling and opposition parties expressed contradictory views about next steps to elect the new PM during a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee today.

Whereas ruling parties criticised the main opposition CPN-UML for obstructing the Parliament meeting over the halted vote counting in Bharatpur Metropolitan City, the UML said it was adamant on its stance that the House could not proceed without settling the issue.

The ruling parties also suggested that the UML should lift the obstruction now as the President has already called the Parliament to elect the PM on the basis of majority. But, the UML was of the view that the nation could wait for the PM till the end of the Bharatpur dispute.

It has been learned that the Speaker will begin consultation this afternoon itself.

Earlier, it was expected that the Parliament Secretariat would publish the schedule today so as to hold the polls on Sunday.
