Kathmandu, November 15

Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara has told the federal government to file proposals to amend various laws that contradict the constitution at the earliest.

Speaker Mahara recently summoned Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal and told him that the deadline to amend the laws was March 5, 2019 when one year since the first meeting of Federal Parliament will be complete.

During the meeting, Minister Dhakal told Mahara that preparations were underway to amend 150 laws as their selected provisions were against the 2015 constitution.

Drafts of bills for some of the amendments were already prepared whereas drafting was underway for the rest, he added.

It has been learned that the government is preparing to table all amendment proposals during the next session of Federal Parliament. The Cabinet needs to endorse them before the registration.

Mahara says he will hold a meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli soon about summoning the session.
