Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara has expressed his unhappiness over the government for failing to move forward the process to amend laws that contradict the constitution.

He says the government has also failed to provide sufficient business to Parliament, hence the beginning of next House session has delayed further.

The constitution says laws contradicting the constitution must be amended within the first year of the date of the first meeting of the first Federal Parliament elected under the new charter. Accordingly, the deadline for amendment of 339 laws is March 5, 2019.

For past few months, Mahara has been repeatedly calling for the registration of proposals to amend the laws.

“I want to request the government to give us business at the earliest. It will be difficult if the proposals were not registered by February,” he said, addressing ministers who were present at a programme today.”

He also urged the government to ensure that all laws are oriented towards socialism as envisioned by the constitution.
