Solukhumbu: Congress, Maoist cadres clash in poll run-up

Solukhumbu district

Solukhumbu, November 10

At least six persons of both sides sustained injuries when cadres of Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist Centre clashed in Sotang of Solukhumbu district in eastern Nepal on Friday.

Congress leader and the party’s candidate for House of Representatives elections in the district, Bal Bahadur KC, says Maoist cadres chased away and attacked them. He accused police of not taking any initiative to control the situation.

“They pelted stones at us while we were on the way to a village for an election campaign,” he says, “But, police did nothing. The security arrangement here is very weak.”

KC claims some Maoist cadres had attacked his team in Sotang-5 last night too.

Maoist leader Karjyang Lama, however, refutes the allegation and says they resorted to retaliation when the Congress team torn flags, leaflets and posters of the Maoist party.

“After we chased them in retaliation,” he says, “They hid inside the local police station.”
