Smugglers’ gang beats policemen snatches their rifle

Birgunj, December 18

A gang of smugglers trying to get petrol out of Nepal to India has beaten up police personnel and snatched their guns.

According to the District Police Office, Parsa, the incident took place near Inaruwaa at around 3 am. The policemen intercepted the smugglers acting on a tip.

Petroleum products are cheaper in Nepal than in India as Nepal Oil Corporation does not pay taxes to the central government in India.

The 40 smugglers then beat the police with sticks and fled the scene looting their three-nought-three rifles.

Superintendent of Police Rewati Dhakal said that Sub-Inspector of Police Bishnudev Yadav, police constables Prem Bahadur Rana and Arjun Chaudhary were injured in the incident. They are receiving treatment at the National Medical College and Neuro Hospital at Birgunj.
