Kathmandu, July 12
The agitating Rastriya Janata Party Nepal has hinted that it can agree to take part in local level elections in Province 2 scheduled for September 18 by putting the constitution amendment bill on hold for now.
After ruling parties decided not to put the bill to vote at the present circumstances after the CPN-UML denied extending support to the bill and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party also could not assure full support, the agitating party has also said that just putting the bill to vote will not do any good if it is certain to fail.
During a meeting held with ruling Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist Centre on Tuesday evening, RJPN leader Mahantha Thakur said he had the knowledge that the bill would not get endorsed if put to vote for the decision now.
Thakur, however, demanded that the government meet other demands except the amendment in order to convince the party to take part in the polls.
The ruling party leaders responded positively to Thakur’s other demands.
“The RJPN leaders have not said that they would not participate in the polls until the constitution amendment. We also want to create an environment for their participation,” a leader from a ruling party says, “We have already begun preparations for that.”
