Rainfall affects Nepal-India petroleum pipeline works

Pipes are being laid down for the Nepal-India petroleum pipeline, in June 2018.

Birgunj, August 1

Incessant rainfall has affected the installation of petroleum pipelines from Motihari of India to Amlekhgunj of Bara in Nepal.

So far, laying pipeline has been completed along a 15 km stretch in total 70 km distance. The works have been heavily disturbed due to frequent rainfalls.

It may be noted that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi had jointly inaugurated the Motihari-Amlekhgunj petroleum pipeline from Hyderabad House in New Delhi during Nepal PM’s state visit to India last April.

The pipeline construction is underway at the cost of Rs 2.75 billion. The Indian government has pledged to aid Rs 2 billion while Nepal is investing Rs 750 million for the project.
