Pokhara, March 11

Chairman of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, has said that his party will decide the candidate to run in a byelection in Kaski-2 after consulting the family of late lawmaker Rabindra Adhikari and district leaders of the party.

The House of Representatives seat is vacant after the death of Adhikari in a helicopter crash in Taplejung of eastern Nepal two weeks ago.

Dahal told journalists in Adhikari’s hometown, Pokhara, today that the party was yet to begin formal discussions on the issue.

“The family and the party leaders in the district should take a decision about the bypoll,” he said, “The family already has a political background. Its members also possess leadership capacity.”

“The party will take an appropriate decision considering all these.”

In the wake of Adhikari’s untimely death, his wife, Bidya Bhattarai, has been seen as a potential candidate to fill the vacancy as she was active in student politics a couple of decades ago.
