Protesting Nepali Congress students burn PM’s effigy

Cadres of Nepali Congress student wing, Nepal Students Union, burn the effigy of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, on Sunday, January 27, 2019.

Kathmandu, January 27

Cadres of Nepal Students Union, the student wing of the main opposition party Nepali Congress, on Sunday burned an effigy of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, in Chabahil of Kathmandu.

The protesters, who had launched a demonstration against the ‘forceful’ endorsement of the National Medical Education Bill from the House of Representatives despite objections of the Nepali Congress, burned the effigy in front of Pashupati Multiple College this morning.

Whereas the mother party has announced to launch a nationwide protest, the sister wing has already come to the streets against the ruling party.

Meanwhile, the protestants also demanded that the government launch an independent probe into suspected regularities in the purchase of two widebody aircraft for the Nepal Airlines Corporation and bring the culprit of Nirmala Pant rape and murder case to book.

The protest had obstructed traffic in Chabahil area for a while.
