Prime Minister not happy with media coverage of govt decisions

KP Sharma Oli

Kathmandu, August 12

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has expressed his unhappiness over the media coverage of various decisions and activities carried out by the government.

Receiving a newly elected executive committee of Media Society Nepal, an association  of Nepali media houses, Oli said some media portrayed the government decision to restrict demonstrations from public places including Maitighar Mandala as a move against civil liberty, which it was not.

“Let’s think without any prejudice. What do you think: is Maitighar Mandala an appropriate place for staging mass meetings and rallies? How can some media portray us as anti-liberty?” he said, “The Nepal Communist Party is the proponent of democracy. We cannot imagine violating democratic values, press freedom and human rights.”

He stressed the media coverage should be true and trustworthy, claiming some media houses intentionally carried propaganda against his government and party.
