Prime Minister calls off ‘decisive’ talks with Madheshi Morcha

Kathmandu, April 10

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has called off a ‘decisive’ meeting with the Madheshi Morcha which was supposed to seal a deal under which the government would table a fresh constitution amendment proposal and the Morcha would contest the May 14 elections.

According to sources, the Prime Minister decided to call off the meeting as UML Chairman KP Oli is in Bangkok, Congress chief Deuba is in Dang and Morcha leader Mahanta Thakur is also out of town.

“The Prime Minister had told us to come to Baluwatar at 10 am,” Sadbhawana Party chief Rajendra Mahato told Onlinekhabar. “But all of a sudden we received news that the meeting has been canceled,” he added.

Mahato said he was not told why the meeting was called off.

This comes a day after Prime Minister Prachanda held separate talks with leaders of the Morcha and agreed to give finishing touches to the amendment proposal before getting it endorsed by a Cabinet meeting in the afternoon and registering it in Parliament.
