Prachanda: Poll dates will be announced after amendment put to vote

Chitwan, February 8

Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ says his government will announce dates for civic elections only after the bill to amend the constitution is put to vote in Parliament.

The Prime Minister, who was speaking in Chitwan earlier on Wednesday, said he wants the Madheshi Morcha to also participate in the elections, and that is the reason he does not want to announce dates for the election until the amendment bill is presented in Parliament.

Prachanda, who last week wrote to the election commission to prepare to conduct election in May, said the government has no doubt that elections need to take place in May.

“We have been talking to the Madheshi Morcha, and we could reach an agreement any day now,” he said adding that dates for the election would be announced immediately after negotiations are finished.
