Poll results will not affect UML-Maoist merger: Dahal

CPN-Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal speaks with journalists in Chitwan, on Monday, October 30, 2017.

Chitwan, October 30

CPN-Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal says the proposed merger between CPN-UML and his party will not be affected by results of upcoming provincial and federal parliamentary elections.

Speaking with journalists in his home district Chitwan today, Dahal appealed all not to cast any doubt over the certainty of unification.

He said the unified communist party would work for the country and its people.

Meanwhile, Dahal said the partnership between the UML and the Maoists is different from that between the Nepali Congress and the Maoists.

“This alliance has ideological and political meanings. It has its own characteristics. It is not only the election tactic,” he said, “Having fewer parties is the need of the country.”

Meanwhile, Dahal said there should not be any doubt about timely elections as the Election Commission already decided to print separate ballot papers for first-past-the-post elections for provincial assemblies and the House of Representatives.
