Police suppressed our protests, RJPN complains with PM

Rastrija Janata Party leaders hold a meeting with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, in Kathmandu, on Wednesday, June 21, 2017.

Kathmandu, June 21

Leaders of the agitating Rastriya Janata Party Nepal have complained that police used excessive force to suppress their protests in various districts of Terai in the run-up to the second phase of local level elections scheduled for June 28.

RJPN presidium members Mahantha Thakur and Anil Kumar Jha told Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba during a meeting today that police opened fire while the RJPN was holding a mass meeting in Nawalparasi district few days back.

Three RJPN cadres had sustained injuries in the incident.

In response, the Prime Minister said he would direct authorities to investigate into the cases.

“The Prime Minister said such incidents should not have been held,” Jha told media after the meeting, “He said he would look into the issues.”
