Pokhara Congress cadres demand PM resign

Leaders and cadres of the main opposition Nepali Congress stage a protest against the government, in Pokhara, on Tuesday, July 31, 2018.

Pokhara, July 31

Leaders and cadres of the main opposition party Nepali Congress in Pokhara of Karki district on Tuesday demanded that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resign.

Speaking at a function organised as a part of the party’s nationwide anti-government camapgin, leaders and cadres said Oli should resign as his government was headed towards totalitarianism and authoritarianism.

Congress Central Working Committee member Jeevan Pariyar said Oli was responsible for the ‘disrespectful speech’ that his Law Minister Sher Bahadur Tamang made against Nepali women, therefore he should resign. Likewise, he added that the incumbent government also tried to control the independent press.

Participants of the rally also chanted slogans against the Prime Minister and the entire government.

Meanwhile, traffic in the Lake City turned messy as the party staged its demonstration in Chiledhunga, the ‘heart’ of the city. Thousands of passengers were affected due to the demonstration.

The party, however, said traffic could run smoothly despite the function, but police obstructed the road.
