Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s wife and former lawmaker Arzu Rana Deuba has lost the House of Representatives polls in Kailali-5.

CPN-UML’s Narad Muni Rana was elected the lawmaker from the constituency by defeating the Nepali Congress candidate with a difference of around 5,000 votes.

Narad Muni received 27,202 votes against 22,322 of Arzu.

Arzu was elected the lawmaker twice under the proportional representation category and it was her first try in the FPTP race.

Behind Narad Muni and Arzu is Rastriya Janata Party Nepal’s Laxman Tharu, who is also accused of killing eight police personnel during a clash in Tikapur of the district two years ago. Tharu is still facing the case and is in judicial custody.
