Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli visits locals injured in a storm in Kalaiya of Bara on Monday, April 1, 2019.

Kathmandu, April 1

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Monday visited various places of flood-hit Bara district and met survivors undergoing treatment.

Oli inspected the situation in the worst hit Pheta Rural Municipality of the district from a helicopter before he landed in Kalaiya of Bara and Birgunj of Parsa to meet the survivors admitted at local hospitals.

Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Upendra Yadav, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, Physical Infrastructure Minister Raghubir Mahaseth and Urban Development Minister Mohammad Istiyak Rai accompanied the Prime Minister. Likewise, officials of security agencies were also in the team.

District level government officials had briefed Oli about the disaster that killed at least 31 persons.

The Prime Minister had gone to Bara directly from his home district, Jhapa, after postponing all scheduled engagements.

Earlier this morning, Province 2 Chief Minister Lalbabu Raut had telephoned Oli to observe a national day of mourning. The federal government’s response to the call, however, was immediately unknown.
