Kathmandu, May 7

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has claimed that provincial and local governments are not independent, but they are subordinate to the federal government.

Responding to questions of lawmakers over the government’s annual policy and programme for the next fiscal year during the House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday, Oli said provincial and local governments working under the central government was not strange.

Earlier, some lawmakers had criticised the government for trying to control provincial and local units.

But, Oli said no one should be confused about their rights and responsibilities.

The Prime Minister, however, maintained that the federal government was working to develop mechanisms to coordinate among different levels of government. He said the government would also clarify which government should do what.
