PM Oli inaugurates People’s Hydro Programme

Kathmandu, March 21

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Thursday bought 10,000 units of shares of the 37 MW Trishuli III ‘B’ hydropower project as part of the launch of ‘People’s Hydroelectricity Programme’.

PM Oli applied for the share online at a programme organised by the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation at his residence, Baluwatar. Oli said the use of people’s money for the development of small scale hydropower projects would help developers focus on big projects.

He insisted that this kind of projects should be undertaken without asking other countries for financial support. “We have to make the country self-sufficient by connecting people’s investment in agriculture and tourism,” he said.

PM Oli’s wife Radhika Shakya and Energy Minister Barshaman Pun also applied for 10,000 units of shares each, while former Speaker Onsari Gharti applied for 2,000 shares.

The programme named ‘Nepalko Pani, Janatako Lagani: Harek Nepali Bidyutko Sheyardhani (Nepal’s Water, People’s Investment: Every Nepali’s Share on Electricity) was officially launched on February 13.
