Kathmandu, June 28

Two senior leaders of the agitating Rastriya Janata Party Nepal have confessed that members of the public rejected the party’s appeal to boycott the second phase of local level elections as the voter turnout turned to be exciting in Terai districts as well.

RJPN Parliamentary Party Leader Sarvendra Nath Shukla and General Secretary/Chief Whip Brijesh Kumar Gupta say they could not stop people from casting votes.

Earlier, Shukla and Gupta had advocated within the party to take part in the elections. The majority, however, had not accepted their line.

Currently, they are in their home districts, Rupandehi and Kapilbastu respectively, apparently to support their cadres who have contested today’s polls despite the party’s instruction to boycott them.

Voting is underway in Rupandehi.

Talking to Onlinekhabar, Shukla said he did not cast votes, but visited polling booths of his cadres and found that people’s participation was encouraging.

“I obeyed the party order and did not vote,” he said, “But, I extended my best wishes to my cadres and people .”

On the other hand, Gupta from Taulihawa of Kapilbastu said he was very sad for not being able to cast his vote.

“I have restricted myself to home and am sad. My friends who have been supporting me to win elections every time have filed independent nominations,” he said, “I wish for their victory.”
