One million tourists visited Nepal in 2018: NTB

According to Nepal Tourism Board, 1,001,930 people from foreign countries visited Nepal in 2018.

With that Nepal has seen a 17% rise in tourism as compared to last year and for the first time in its history welcomed over a million tourists.

Chief Executive Officer at Nepal Tourism Board, Deepak Raj Joshi, said that it was a historic achievement to bring in one million tourists. He also added that it was only the start and that NTB along with tourism entrepreneurs are working to bring in 2 million tourists by 2020.

India and China have led in terms of sending more tourists to Nepal. According to NTB, Nepal welcomed a total of 178,130 Indian visitors during the 11 months of 2018 while China sent 134,362 visitors during the same period.

The United States, Britain and Germany came third, fourth and fifth in terms of sending tourists as of November in 2018, according to NTB.

Nepal saw the arrival of 940,218 foreign tourists in 2017 narrowly missing out on the one million mark.
