Kathmandu, May 25
Nepal’s incumbent government led by Nepal Communist Party Chairman KP Sharma Oli has completed its first 100 days on Friday. Appointed the Prime Minister with the support of then CPN-Maoist Centre on February 15, the Cabinet later garnered support from Madhesh-centric political parties as well in the Federal Parliament.
The government now has the support of two-thirds majority for the first time since BP Koirala’s government in late 1950s.
Despite the unprecedented command over majority, the government’s performance is not extraordinary, even in its honeymoon period. Neither are they disappointing. The performance, in overall, is average.
Here are few things that can be counted as major achievements of the government:
1.
Relationship with neighbours
During his official visit to India, Oli strongly presented his points in front of his India counterpart about development projects for the welfare of Nepal. India has already considered removal of India’s field office in Biratnagar. Oli had clarified Modi that the country’s internal affairs would not the topic of discussion during bilateral meetings.
Meanwhile, Modi also paid a visit to Nepal.

Crackdown on syndicates
The Oli-led government decided to end the monopoly of transport syndicates by promoting free competition in the sector. The government stopped the registration and renewal of the transport committees.
Meanwhile, crackdowns have begun against various groups collecting money from foreign employment aspirants under different headings.
3.
Action against non-performing contractors
The government decided to take strict action against the contractors who delay and fail to complete scheduled projects on the scheduled time. Various projects in Nepal have been in limbo as the contractors fail to work efficiently.
4.
Restriction on official junkets
The Oli-led government has prohibited unnecessary visits of government officials to foreign countries in the government’s cost. The government has also cut off unnecessary allowances that was provided to government employees for attending meetings.
5.
Good governance
Prime Minister Oli has hinted at stopping irregularities and corruption at the policy-making level. Various development projects have been moving ahead in good speed, making the citizens hopeful about a prosperous Nepal
After the unification of two left parties into the Nepal Communist Party, the Oli government needs not get frightened with the opposition’s attempt to topple the government. In his talks, the Prime Minister has already proved himself a dreamer. Now, he has got enough time to act. So, will he really walk the talk? Perhaps, till will tell you the answer.
