Oli, Xi discuss strengthening Nepal-China ties

Kathmandu, June 20

Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Wednesday afternoon held a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Oli is currently in the Chinese capital on a six-day official visit.

During the meeting held in Beijing, the two leaders discussed multiple dimensions of Nepal-China ties. Details of the discussions are not revealed yet.

Meanwhile, Oli is also scheduled to hold a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang today itself.

Before leaving for China, the Prime Minister had told lawmakers that he would directly talk with  Xi and ask he could support Nepal’s development agendas. He was hopeful that China would be kind enough to support Nepal, keeping its national interests at centre, as it has always respected the country’s sovereignty.

It is expected that the governments in Kathmandu and Beijing will sign a number of agreements for partnership in Nepal’s hydropower development, post-earthquake reconstruction and energy cooperation.
