Kathmandu, January 28

Top leaders of CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre–KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal respectively–have engaged themselves in a one-on-one meeting since Sunday morning, which according to some leaders is likely to become a breakthrough for the two parties’ unification.

Multiple sources say the two leaders are focused on deciding who will lead the unified party and what positions will be given to them. The sources, however, refuse to divulge details saying they do not know much.

UML’s Surendra Pandey says other leaders except the duo do not know much about latest updates.

Another leader says Oli is trying to convince Dahal to become a co-chairman of the unified party while some Maoist leaders have warned that the unification will not take place if he is not given the chairmanship.

Meanwhile, owing to the two leaders’ meeting, the joint task force, formed to finalise the model of power sharing for key state positions, has rescheduled its meeting for the afternoon.

It has been learned that Oli and Dahal had decided to settle other differences from the top level after getting reported about the progress made by the task force on Friday.

On Friday too, they had a long interpersonal talk, according to the source.
