Nepali Congress President and former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba says he has now understood why his party’s founder late BP Koirala said the Congress party should not partner with communists.

Speaking at a function organised in Kathmandu on the occasion of BP Memorial Day, the leader said, “BP knew about the communists then. But, we knew them just now: they can never be for people.”

Deuba reiterated that the current communist government deprived people of their rights as it has declared many public places of Kathmandu Valley no-protest zone.

“This is undemocratic and it proves they cannot work for people. They have tried to establish a single-party, authoritarian, totalitarian form of governance.”

He adds, “They do not let you speak, write and express your voices.”

In another context, he said demands raised by medical education reform activist Dr Govinda KC were right, adding his party would be unified to save his life.
