Nepal’s trade deficit increases by 46 per cent in one year

Nepal’s trade deficit in the first quarter of current fiscal year 2018/19 has increased by 45.92 per cent from the same time period of last year, show the government data.

The country was at the loss of Rs 349.842 billion from mid-July to mid-October this year. Last year, the country was at the loss of Rs 239.751 billion during this period.

In past three months, the country imported goods worth Rs 373.587 billion against the export of Rs 23.745 billion.

The import is 43.57 per cent more than the amount of the same time last year whereas the export size is also bigger by 16.08 per cent.

According to the government records, Nepal survived the biggest loss with India in this period. The trade deficit with India stood at Rs 222.959 billion. India is followed by China and France in the second and third positions respectively.

United Arab Emirates and Thailand are next on the list.
