List of projects for Nepal under Belt and Road Initiative will be finalised soon: China

Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali on Wednesday morning held a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing.

During the meeting, Wang said a list of projects to be carried out under the Belt and Road Initiative for Nepal-China cooperation would be revealed soon.

Minister Gyawali is in the Chinese capital from Sunday evening for an official trip. He will return home on April 21.

It has been learned that the two leaders also discussed issues of mutual interests and bilateral cooperation during the meeting. The ministers hosted a joint press conference after the meeting.

The Chinese Minister, on the occasion, said he proposed a trans-Himalayan economic corridor involving Nepal, China and India.

Likewise, Gyawali said he had a dream to travel to China on a cross-border railway, stating connectivity between two countries.

Though not stated in the formal agenda list, Gyawali is believed to have left for Beijing to prepare the ground for Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s China trip.

The two sides are yet to confirm any date, but Oli is planning to visit China at the earliest. It is expected that both the sides will announce the date after the completion of Gyawali’s visit.

Likewise, the Minister is also expected to discuss the long-awaited visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Nepal.
