Nepal’s economic growth rate projected to be 5.89% this fiscal year

Kathmandu, April 25

As the end of current fiscal year is nearly three months away, the Central Bureau of Statistics says Nepal will record an economic growth rate of 5.89 per cent this year.

In the beginning of the fiscal year, the government’s growth target was 7.2 per cent whereas it was later revised to six per cent.

Just recently, the World Bank had predicted the growth of 4.6 per cent. The Asian Development Bank, on the other hand, has put the figure at 4.9 per cent. The ADB’s initial projection was as low as 4.7 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Bureau says it hopes that Nepal’s total size of gross domestic product would cross Rs 3 trillion this year. Last year, it was Rs 2.66 trillion.

The Bureau also claims that Nepal’s per capita income has crossed USD 1,000 mark.
