Nepalis going for Qatari jobs can complete their paperwork before flight now

Kathmandu, November 21

Qatar has implemented a new rule regarding residency procedures of foreign workers in the country and Nepali migrant workers are among the beneficiaries.

The Qatar News Agency says the new rule will be implemented for workers of eight countries; namely Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Philippines and Tunisia. People from these countries constitute around 80 per cent of the total workshop in Qatar.

Now, workers from these countries can complete Qatari residency procedures in their own countries before flying to the Gulf kingdom.

It includes paperwork for medical checkup, bio-metric data and fingerprint, and work contracts.

The landmark move is expected to decrease the cases of rejection of expat workers on account of their failing medical tests.

Earlier, Qatar, who will host the 2020 FIFA World Cup, had approved a draft bill in October to set up a support fund for its two million-strong foreign workforce.

Last year, the Qatari government also introduced a new labour law aimed at making it easier for migrant workers to change jobs and leave the country.
