Kathmandu, January 8

The main opposition party, Nepali Congress, on Tuesday decided to form a ‘shadow Cabinet’ to check the incumbent government’s activities.

A meeting of the parliamentary party held today made the decision, according to lawmaker Gagan Thapa.

The meeting has urged its lawmakers to file proposals on which portfolios that they want to hold.

Speaking at a public function in Kathmandu last week, the party’s senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel had criticised the party president Sher Bahadur Deuba, claiming his leadership was even unable to play the role of the shadow government.

Hence, the decision today was a bid to show the strength of Deuba’s leadership, it has been learned.
